The 52nd National Bible Quiz Finals took place June 29-July 4, 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the Bonaventure Resort and Spa (Weston) covering the epistles of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and 1, 2 and 3 John. Bernie Elliot was the National Coordinator and Kent Kloefkorn was the official question writer.

The national championship was won by James River A/G, Ozark, MO (pictured). This was their second championship in a row and they would go on to win again in 2015 and 2017. It was also the third national championship for coach John Porter. James River finished second in the regular round robin, but won in the two Final Four games to win both on the last question. This church has also had a very impressive run at nationals since 2005, finishing in the top five every year. This was the fourth win for the state of Missouri and the eight win for the Gulf region.

This was the fifth year the Final Four format was used to determine the national champion. Finishing second in the Final Four and competing in the championship game was Bellevue, WA. Third place went to Bothell, WA and fourth place went to Muskogee, OK.

The challenger division was won by Bethlehem Church, Richmond Hill, NY.

The top scorer at the 2014 National Finals was Abby Rogers from Cedar Park Church, Bothell, WA. This marked the fifth consecutive year for her. Abby’s per quiz average was 133.42. Second high scorer was Jacob Wyatt from Spring, TX. Luke Wagner from Muskogee, OK placed third. Rounding out the top five were Daniel Quick from Ozark, MO and Aaron Scarinzi from Binghamton, NY.

The individual tournament was won by Abby Rogers, her second win. Tyler Adelmann won the title of quoting bee champion.

The east-west took place at the banquet and the East won. In addition, an unofficial quiz, dubbed the “Match of Death”, with very hard, unusual and funny questions took place after the banquet featuring eight top quizzers. Video will be posted in the memories section soon.
