Individual Tournament

No teams, no coaches; quizzers compete in a rapid-fire round!

Top 3 quizzers receive scholarships to the school of their choice:

  • 1st Place: $650
  • 2nd Place: $250
  • 3rd Place: $100

  1. The Individual Tournament will be open to all participating quizzers attending Nationals. Coaches will indicate which students plan to participate as part of registration.
  2. The competition consists of six rounds of quizzing. The top three participants in the final round will receive scholarships.
  3. Each room will have between four and eight quizzers. Excluding the final round, finishing in first or second place counts as a win; any other ranking counts as a loss. A quizzer is removed from the competition after receiving two losses.
  4. In the final round, individual placement is final tournament placement. Head-to-head tie breakers will only be played for the top three positions of the tournament.
  5. For each round, quizzers will be assigned a room. Room assignments will be listed in the event results. Quizzers are responsible for checking the posted room. Quizmasters will also announce the next room for each quizzer who has not been eliminated.
  6. Round one will begin at the announced time and will not be delayed for late quizzers.
  1. Quizmasters must verify that the correct quizzers are present for each round.
  2. Each round will consist of twelve questions: four 10s, five 20s, and three 30s.
  3. Excluding the final round, if a tie occurs, the following rules apply:
    1. A two-way tie for second will be broken by a single sudden death 10-point question.
    2. If a three-or-more-way tie occurs, the first sudden-death question read will determine the winner (if answered correctly) or the loser (if answered incorrectly). A new 10-point question will be read to break each of the remaining ties, if necessary.
    3. If a tie occurs and one or more quizzers are ineligible, those who have quizzed out forward will be allowed back in to break the tie. Those who struck out or fouled out will remain ineligible.
    4. If a tie occurs for losing position or between only quizzers who have struck out or fouled out, the tie will be broken by normal tie breaking rules.
  4. Once a quizzer cannot be caught by the remaining points (including bonus points), they will leave the game. Also, once a quizzer cannot catch up to one of the winners (or cannot reach 3rd place in the final round), they will also leave the game. Fouls are not considered when determining whether a quizzer can be caught.
  5. If a quizzer reaches the final round with no losses, they will be given a 10-point bonus at the start of the final round.
  6. Any interrupted question missed on the first read will be reread only once for the remaining quizzers. If the reread question is interrupted and missed, it will be read in its entirety to give quizzers the opportunity to hear the entire question for the purpose of contesting only.
  7. There will be no coaches for the quizzers.
  8. The score will be read after questions 5, 7, 9, and 11 for all quizzers. A quizzer will be advised when he or she has four correct or two incorrect. Failure to read the score or to be advised of correct or incorrect question amounts is not grounds for a contest. Quizzers may request by point of order to know the point values remaining.
  9. No time-outs are allowed.
  10. Only a quizzer who has been called incorrect may contest, but any quizzer may contest obvious validity. No response is allowed to any contest. Once the officials have ruled on the validity of a question in response to a contest, no further validity contests may be presented on that question.
  11. All other Bible Quiz Rules are in effect.
  12. If necessary, time limits may be imposed for matches by the Individual Tournament or National Bible Quiz Coordinator.
