Championship Division Question Tips by Jesse Czubkowski
Section titled “Championship Division Question Tips by Jesse Czubkowski”General Tips
Section titled “General Tips”- Generally, questions will be easy to interrupt except Statement and Questions or Scripture-text Questions. Pay attention to what the introductory remarks say as well as what they do not say.
- Knowing unique words, chapter analysis, conditional “if” statements, and, to a lesser extent, “let us” commands and “do not“ commands will be valuable for teams.
- Application Questions will be used for Leagues 1 – 4 only
- Locators will shift from section titles to chapters as we approach Districts/Regionals/Nationals
10-point Questions
Section titled “10-point Questions”- The difficulty will be similar for all levels. (League Meet 1 and National Finals are identical in difficulty.)
- All answers will come from a single verse and will usually require 7 words or less
League Meet 1-4
Section titled “League Meet 1-4”- 20s: These questions will typically be 8 words or more and will come from a single verse. I will emphasize an understanding of fundamental knowledge at this level. (Giving verses in essence, chapter analysis, references, and knowledge of unique words are paramount at this stage)
- 30s: These questions will require answers almost always from a single verse, but answers will be longer than 20-point questions. It will be important to know how to quote by verse reference, know all section titles and verse references, as well as understand some basic cross-referencing from withing the same chapter.
League Meet 5/League Finals
Section titled “League Meet 5/League Finals”- 20s/30s The difficulty will remain the same as League Meet 1-4, but cover all material cumulatively.
Contender Division: Laura Rodriguez
Section titled “Contender Division: Laura Rodriguez”Contender quizzers, welcome to the book of Mark! I trust that the Lord will work in your lives this year as you learn His Word! The majority of the questions you’ll hear will be straightforward and predictable, once you learn my style (pay attention in the practice sets). They will not always be quick hits, but most will follow the Scripture fairly closely. Scripture text questions, as is true with most writers, will often require more patience.
For 10s, expect that most will be 3 words or less. Most two-part questions and/or answers will be 20 pointers at league level, even if they are not complete answers. There will be some questions asked by reference, but many of these will come from the study questions. Questions requiring chapter analysis answers will be mostly content-related (Who reprimanded Jesus?), although you will find a few that will be asked by verse number. Questions that reference a verse number will increase in frequency toward the end of the season. League meet 5 will contain some questions that will help you know what to expect for district finals.
As you are memorizing verses, it is extremely helpful to learn the section titles and their ranges. To that end, I have created a Quizlet set of flashcards with this information. If you are not familiar, Quizlet.com is an online study tool utilizing flashcards. My flashcard set is titled, “Mark Section Titles NLT.” The set contains the section titles for the entire book (and thus can be useful for championship quizzers as well), but you can select exactly which flashcards you’d like to study. Start small, and add flashcards as you go throughout the year. Knowing your section titles will enable you to narrow the focus of the question in your mind and find the key words more easily.
